We’ve all got our own learning styles but one great way to learn photography is by doing.
Aaliyah joined me recently to gain a greater understanding of the world of photography. Studying journalism in London but with specific photography modules to complete she was able to gain a better understanding of studio work and then location shoots by shadowing a professional photographer in Exeter.
Seen sitting here as a headshot portrait subject we worked through a number of lighting setups showing the difference that various lighting modifiers make to the end result. Working through some simple one, two and three light setups we also examined the us of negative fill using simple drapes and cloths as well as the use of reflectors to replace lights.
Following on from this headshot photography Aaliyah sat in on a retouching session to gain insight into the professional retouching methods used.
In addition to the session in our Exeter photography studio Aaliyah also assisted on a busy day’s motorcycle shoot in Wiltshire.
